Recycled Plastic Soap Dish

Year

2021-2022

Client

Flipside Plastics was founded by Laska, an entrepreneur from Victoria who wanted to address the issue of plastic waste by creating products made 100% from recycled materials.

Purpose

Laska had been molding soap dishes made from recycled coffee cups in her living room when she approached us needing a more scalable solution to take her product to the next level.

Disciplines

Our Role

Working in close collaboration with Flipside, our role in this project was to start with Laska's original soap dish design and engineer it to be mass manufacturable including adding some branding, addressing pain points her customers had expressed and optimizing the design to minimize the amount of plastic used.

Preserving the Original Design

A key goal of this project was to keep the design very similar to Laska's original intent with only subtle improvements. A two-part design was implemented for easy cleaning and drainage of soap and water and a gentle curve introduced to the top surface to guide water towards the center to avoid spilling onto the counter.

Scalable and Manufacturable

We ensured that the Riptide soap dish was easy for contract manufacturers to produce at low cost and at whatever production volumes were needed in the future.
